Ram Niwas, Home-cum-Health Secretary said that Chandigarh is the first city to set up a govt.-run Dental Implant Centre in the country. The purpose of the Dental Implant Centre at Government Polyclinic in Sector-45 will be to provide valuable contribution for restoration and replacement of teeth at nominal rates.
"The union territory administration has made this foray into the domain of the private sector not to fulfill any norms but to make available the costly implant facility to the common man at very affordable price," Ram Niwas said.
Implants- an expensive procedure
Currently, the procedure of dental implants, monopolized by the private sector, is a costly affair- way beyond the means of the common man, but the newly established center provides the similar facilities at reasonable prices.
Dr R.S. Mann, in-charge of the implant center, stated, "The rates of dental implant in the private sector vary from Rs.15,000 to Rs.35,000 but here it is available at one-third the price at about Rs.6,400. Similarly, the correction of root damage and cavity that cost between Rs.1,500-2,000 is available here for only Rs.200-400.”
Center well-equipped with latest machines
Dr RS Mann stated that the center was well equipped with two dental chairs and the latest machines costing Rs.4 lakh each.
"Now the patients do not require to spend huge amounts of money in private institutions as they can get better facilities here at much subsidized rates. There is no compromise on quality as this centre is equipped with all the latest technologies and the best physicians," he said.
He further added that the Dental Implant Centre was, “A definite step on the road to giving tertiary care in the field of dentistry, the centre brings the world’s highly advanced know-how of replacement of missing teeth with a nickel titanium screw fixture, within the reach of the inhabitants of the city.”
According to Dr Mann, the dental implant provided by the center has been designed and produced by an Israel based company, Alpha Biotec Limited. It has been granted approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and has also been certified by the European Union.
He explained that titanium implants are the best because they are easily adapted by the human body. Besides, the titanium implant is three to five times stronger than the natural tooth.
