Court smites hospitals for hiring unregistered practitioners
Additional District and Sessions Judge Kamini Lau ordered a probe today against 'Shanti Mukund Hospital' to clarify if the hospital has hired doctors unregistered with the Medical Council of India (MCI).
What triggered the probe
The hospital came under the light after V K Singh, the main accused who sought a job in the fake MCI registration certificate case, moved court for an anticipatory bail.
MCI had earlier lodged a complaint against Singh, claiming that he submitted a fraudulent registration certificate while seeking employment as a resident medical officer in the Shanti Mukund Hospital.
On the other hand, Singh moved the court for protection against his arrest, arguing that he only submitted a copy of a diploma degree from University of Russia and some other documents sought by the hospital administration and no registration certificate was submitted.
Court’s alignment with MCI
“This court cannot be oblivious of the fact that a large number of doctors, who do not possess a certificate from the Medical Council, are being unauthorisedly employed by private hospitals on lesser salaries in diverse capacities, but are actually made to work as regular medical practitioners, designated as doctors,” said ASJ Lau.
The court also stated that the MCI regulations have been framed to save the lives of patients by not leaving them in the hands of such unqualified doctors. By granting the necessary legal backing to these rules, it has been made quite evident that any person who does not possess the required registration from the MCI would not be allowed to practice anywhere.
