Swine flu scare in Ahmedabad
The lady showed swine-flu symptoms like headache, fever and cough.
Principal Secretary (Health) Ravi Saxena said of the woman’s condition, “The woman has been displaying certain symptoms after she flew back from New Jersey and had consulted a local doctor.”
The secretary said that as soon as they were apprised of the case, representatives of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), along with the epidemiologists from the Health Department, visited her house for further investigations.
The lady was later admitted and quarantined in the isolation ward at the V S Hospital on Thursday. Her blood sample has been sent to National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) in New Delhi for tests.
Meanwhile, the lady has been administered Tamiflu and other antibiotic medicines for preventive measures.
"Her family members have been allowed to stay home after they agreed not to make any contact with outside persons or venture out of their house," a senior health and family ministry official informed the press.
Scare in Gujarat
This is the second suspected case of swine flu from the state of Gujrat in the last one week.
Earlier, an 11-year-old Himmatnagar girl, who had returned from Michigan on June 14, was suspected to have contracted the dreaded virus. However, her reports tested negative.
Health and family welfare minister of the state, Jaynarayan Vyas, said that, till date, there was no confirmed case of swine flu in the Gujarat.
The count of swine flu-affected people in the country has inched to 44. Out of these, 4 cases four have been confirmed as secondary infections. The rest of the infections have been limited to people coming from abroad.
