An 11-year-old male child who returned to the national capital from Munich via Dubai on June 26, had fever and cough. He reported at an identified health facility hospital in Delhi on June 30, where he is now admitted.
The swine flu case reported from Gurgaon is of an 11-year-old female child who traveled from Chicago, USA to Delhi.
The latest victim in Bangalore is 29-year-old male traveler who came back from Changsha, China on June 28. He too reported at the identified health facility on June 30 with flu-like symptoms.
The current status
A total of 769 persons in India have been tested for the dreaded swine flu influenza. 116 people have tested positive so far. Out of these, 74 patients have already been discharged. The others are undergoing treatment at designated health centers across the country.
The Indian authorities have taken all possible precautions to thwart the spread of the swine flu which has affected 70,893 people and claimed 311 lives worldwide.
From stringent screening of all inbound passengers from affected countries to stocking necessary medicines throughout the country, the government is ensuring that all checks and balances are in place.
Regional centers for conducting tests
The Indian government has decided to set up a network of regional influenza surveillance centers to combat the spread of the H1N1 virus in the country.
Under the plan, seven laboratories, in various parts of the country, have been equipped with bio-security level 2 (BSL-2) facilities for carrying out swine flu tests.
As of now, only the the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) in New Delhi have the infrastructure and technical know-how for testing swine flu cases.
The regional centers are King Institute of Preventive Medicine in Chennai, Regional Medical Research Centre in Dibrugarh, National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases in Kolkata, All India Institute of Medical Sciences and Vallabhai Patel Chest Institute in New Delhi, Christian Medical College in Vellore and Post Graduate Institute of Medicine and Research in Chandigarh.
