Themedguru: You seem to be suffering from a condition called Dermatitis or eczema. There are many kinds of this condition and you will have to visit a doctor for a specific diagnosis and medication. It may be acute eczema or chronic eczema.

First of all, this condition is closely linked to hereditary factors and the state of your mind. Keep yourself as relaxed as possible. Any mental agitation will aggravate the condition. So control your anxiety levels and keep a lid on your anger. Such mental stress interferes with the immunological responses of the body.

You may feel you need to bathe often to control the rashes. That is not necessary. Reduce the number of times you bathe or shower, and use lukewarm water to bathe.

Also, showers are better. Stop using harsh, perfumed soaps and stick to mild soap-free cleansers commonly available in the market. You doctor can help you choose one.

Wear clothes that are mild on the skin and allow the passage of air. Cotton fabrics are good. Wool and synthetic garments are not recommended.

Whenever possible, protect your skin from dust, water, solvents, detergents and injury and make sure your skin, especially the affected area, is always hydrated. Apply an emollient liberally. Again, your doctor will tell you which one.

Avoid perfume and use some topical steroids instead for a 5 to 15 day course on the advice of your doctor. Be careful with the instructions on when and where to apply the product.

Antibiotics may also be recommended if infection is complicating or causing the dermatitis.

Antihistamine tablets may help reduce irritation. Application of aloe vera gel is useful. Other alternative treatments include application of a thick paste of baking powder on the affected area. The bark of witch hazel is also used as an antioxidant.

Cod liver oil and vitamin E supplements are prescribed to patients and application of olive oil on the affected area for an hour is also a tried and tested home remedy. A decoction of chamomile tea can be used to wash the affected area.

Rubbing alcohol on the rash is beneficial and use of chamomile and calendula essential oil is also recommended. We would strongly recommend taking Neem tablets. These are very beneficial for any skin related problems and also detoxify the body.
