Fresh 22 cases of swine flu take India’s tally to 251

New Delhi, July 6: A total of 22 new cases of swine flu, highest in a day so far, were reported in the nation, taking its tally to 251 confirmed cases of the influenza A (H1N1) Wednesday.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared the pandemic disease "unstoppable".

According to the health ministry, Delhi reported seven, Jalandhar four, Cochin two, Thiruvananthapuram two, Mumbai two, Pune two, Hyderabad one, Ahmedabad one and Bangalore one swine flu case.

Latest cases from the infected cities
Delhi: Five among the seven freshly confirmed cases in Delhi belong to one family that returned from Malaysia. Other cases include a 45-year-old man, who returned from Malaysia again, and a 38-year-old man, who returned from Bangkok to New Delhi.

Jalandhar: The four cases reported from Jalandhar belong to one family. A 45-year-old man, his wife, their eight-year-old daughter and a three-year-old son had returned from San Francisco, where they picked up the virus.

Kerala (Cochin and Thiruvananthapuram): The four cases from this state include two sisters who returned from Manchester, a 39-year-old man who travelled from Germany via Dubai, and a 60-year-old woman who contracted the virus through “secondary infection”.

Mumbai: The two cases reported from our financial capital are of a seven-year-old boy, who returned from Hong Kong, and a 26-year-old man who came from Jakarta, Indonesia, to Mumbai.

Pune: The two cases from Pune are a boy and a girl of 12, studying in the same school, who contracted the disease from other students in their school, who had returned from U.S.

Hyderabad: A 24-year-old man from The City Of Nizams, who travelled from San Francisco, U.S., also tested positive for the virus.

Ahmedabad: The solitary case reported in the city is of a 16-year-old girl who was infected with the influenza virus from a friend who had returned to India from U.S. She has been admitted to the civil hospital in the city.

Bangalore: A 17-year-old girl who travelled from New York has been tested positive in the city of Bangalore.

The overall swine flu scene
So far 1,293 people have been tested across India, among whom 251 have tested positive for Influenza A (H1N1). Of these positive cases, 141 have been discharged and the remaining 110 are admitted to identified health facilities, according to the union health ministry.

WHO has till date reported 94,512 laboratory confirmed cases of influenza A (H1N1) infection from 135 countries. The pandemic has claimed 429 lives, mostly from Mexico and U.S., and many are still recovering.
