As six succumb to H1N1, govt to set up swine flu war-room
Ghulam Nabi Azad, along with the Cabinet Secretary K. M. Chandrasekhar, discussed the possible measures to deal with the situation and the panic created due to the spread of the lethal virus. The meeting was also attended by Health Secretary Naresh Dayal.
The meeting was held soon after the news of two more deaths in the country due to swine flu were reported, taking the number of the total deaths to six so far.
A 35-year-old ayurvedic doctor Monday died of swine flu in Pune, while a four-year-old boy lost his life due to the virus in Chennai.
Various OPDs and wards to be set-up
The Health Minister Monday advised the state governments to set up separate Out Patient Departments (OPD) and wards in the hospitals, for the screening and treatment of the patients suffering from the influenza.
With the number of positive cases in India touching 800, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asked the Health Ministry to co-ordinate with state government's efforts and measures to restrict the further spread of the disease.
The Prime Minister also asked the Health Minister to take all possible steps to educate the masses, and thus remove misunderstandings about A/H1N1.
Sources have revealed that the prime minister told Azad to set up a panel of doctors and experts to spread the correct information about the swine flu virus so that the state of panic can be checked.
