Women more confident during sex if drunk: Study

Getting drunk prior to making love boosts the confidence of women, says the study.

"Alcohol lowers inhibitions generally, so it is no surprise that people drink before they have sex," Wellington-based sexologist Michelle Mars noted.

"One or two drinks will lower your inhibitions but more than that will act as a central nervous system depressant, which is not good for sex," cautioned Mars.

For the purpose of the study, researchers surveyed 3000 women aged between 18 and 50. Close to half of the respondents admitted that they preferred to have a couple of drinks before having sex.

The findings of the study, which have been reported in the Australian Herald Sun, revealed that forty percent of women had been in an inebriated condition the first time they had sex.

As many as three-forth of the women preferred not being sober before making love with their boyfriend or husband. Six percent of women never had sex without a shot of alcohol, the survey revealed. 16 percent of the respondents admitted that they did not have the self-confidence to sleep with someone in a sober condition.

"If you want to have good sex on the first night, it's better not to drink too much. A champagne cocktail like the following, or a lower alcohol beer will do the trick," advises Mars.

The study also revealed that on average a woman had slept with eight men and was under the influence of alcohol on at least five such occasions. Interestingly, on two of these occasions the women failed to recall the man's name with whom they had slept.

The reason for the confidence boost
Experts opine that alcohol plays a vital role in the love lives as women seek a boost in self-confidence when it comes to their bedroom activities.

"While many women claim they only drink before sex because it is part of the dating process, a large percentage will actually refuse to get between the sheets without a bit of Dutch courage,” said Kathryn Lakeland of Femfresh, the brand that carried out the study.

This essentially means that women are not able to fully take pleasure in the bedroom activities unless they get rid of their inhibitions, and consumption of hard drinks enables them to shed their inhibitions and become more daring.

However, having too many shots may lead women to lose self-control, which in turn would enhance the occurrence of one-night stands.
