Miraculous recovery of a woman with five tumors

Bristol, October 6 -- If genuine miracles are not possible in today’s world, just how does one explain the amazing recovery of a woman with five brain tumors on whom the doctors had given up?

Oncologists treating 47-year-old Carole Budding had thrown in the towel saying that there was not much they could do for her brain tumors, and her chances of surviving beyond a year were slim.

But a year later, Carole is not only alive and kicking, but to the amazement of her doctors, her brain scan revealed that four of the malignant tumors have disappeared. Also the fifth has shrunk to the size of a pin prick and is not deemed dangerous.

"I was thinking I was going to die in a few weeks, then suddenly I wasn't - I seemed to be getting better, but death was always there. That's been the most difficult thing to come to terms with," Budding declared.

Carole is happy but still scared after having undergone such an ordeal.

She states, "After a year of facing death, I still have my shutters down. I'm scared to celebrate in case it comes back."

Carole's life fraught with cancer
Curiously, Carole had successfully battled breast cancer in 2004 too. Three years later, she collapsed and her scan revealed a brain riddled with five malignant tumors instead.

It was a difficult phase in her life when she underwent 10 sessions of chemotherapy and radiation.

The therapy left her weak and unable to move her arms, fueling the fears that the cancer had spread to her spine.

She stated, "They told Ray I had only six to eight weeks. All treatment was withdrawn and all I was given was pain relief. I was sent home to die. I wanted to be buried in a wicker casket carried in a horse and cart.”

Although the odds were stacked against her, the couple never gave up hope. Carole was on her feet again and started going to the hospital for physiotherapy.

She said, “They were amazed I was still around when I’d been given only weeks to live. They said they’d never known anything like it.”

Reasons behind the apparent miracle
Dr Jeremy Braybrooke, the consultant medical oncologist who was treating Carole, said chemotherapy may have shrunk the tumors.

However, Carole feels a divine hand intervened. During the early part of her treatment a stranger had given her two religious medals.

"We're not religious, but when you're in the situation that we were in, you'd be stupid not to believe in anything that might help you," she revealed.

A full body scan has confirmed that she has no other tumors.
