Some of your habits might be causing your skin to age before time. Themedguru suggests changes to care for your skin better.
1. Prefer Natural Scrubs Over Others
To keep your skin glowing and attractive, exfoliate it with all-natural scrubs for they are any day better than the chemical ones.
Make sure that you use gentle face scrubs with beads that are round and smooth, because grainy scrubs could harm your skin and cause irritation.
Younger people with skin problems should take care not to over-exfoliate. Doing this could alleviate the problem rather than curing it.
2. Warm Showers Than Hot Water Showers
You might feel relaxed after having a hot water bath, but too much of it is not good for health. It opens up the body’s pores, removes the natural moisture of the skin and leaves the skin dry and unprotected, say experts.
“Spending too much time in a hot shower can literally melt the layer of lipids that bonds your skin cells together and keeps moisture in,” Dr. Mary P. Lupo, MD, a dermatologist in New Orleans, U.S. says.
In light of this, prefer lukewarm water over hot water while bathing and limit your bath to 15 minutes at the most. This will allow your skin to remain moisturized naturally.
3. Regular Eye Check-Up
Eye care is often neglected. We think we can strain the eyes as much as we want and still maintain a good eyesight.
Experts say that repetitive muscular movements of the eye like squinting can cause temporary wrinkles, which can become permanent, between the brows and the upper skin of the eyes. Therefore they recommend a regular eye check up every two years whether one has vision problem or not.
To keep the vision healthy, eye experts also recommend this simple exercise: Close the eyes tightly. Hold this for sometime and release.
A change of scenery also helps in relaxing the eyes. So look away from your computer and television screens for few minutes and comfort your eyes.
Other than this, one should regularly splash eyes with water, read in correct lighting, wear sunglasses against sunlight, eat a well balanced diet, and remove eye-makeup before bedtime.
4. Wash Your Face, Then Style Your Hair
What do you do first? Style your hair and wash your face or wash your face then style your hair?
It is said that styling products contain ingredients that can end up on the skin around the hairline and could block our pores and cause pimples.
Most of us have a habit of washing our face and then styling our hair. But experts recommend that one should style hair first, and then wash face to remove any product residue.
Or you can cleanse your skin with wet wipes, if you find it inconvenient.
5. Sleep on Your Back, Not Stomach
The next time you go to bed, pay attention to your sleeping posture for it could affect your skin’s health.
If you sleep on your stomach or on your side, this may shorten your muscles, which could lead to puffiness. And when it happens again and again, the skin loses elasticity.
The stomach- and side-sleepers may also be more prone to wrinkles because their faces are repetitively pressed against the bedsheet while sleeping in that posture.
For these reasons, experts recommend that one should sleep on his/her back as it puts the spine in a neutral position and take the strain off the back.
