The study’s results highlight the fact those wanting to shed some kilos could benefit from improving their dairy food intake.
To determine the association between daily intake and weight loss, researchers from the Curtin University, Australia, compared three servings of dairy products with five servings within a lower calorie diet prescribed to 40 obese patients over a 12 week weight loss trial.
Participants consuming 5 dairy serves lost more weight
The findings of the study suggested that study subjects who consumed five daily servings of the dairy products were found to have higher mean levels of weight and fat loss and also showed a greater drop in the elevated blood pressure rates-- also known as systolic blood pressure
.
The daily five servings dairy intake was also found to be associated with reduction in the risk of cardiovascular events and diabetes.
"Many people commonly believe that when trying to lose weight dairy products are key foods that they have to cut out of their diet as they are high in fat," said Curtin University's Wendy Chan She Ping Delfos.
"Participants who had five serves of dairy and engaged in resistance exercise had similar health benefits to participants consuming five serves of dairy only," she added.
