India’s swine flu death toll 1235
All the latest fatalities were reported from the state of Gujarat.
Three of the deaths were reported Monday, while the remaining causalities that had occurred earlier were also confirmed by the state's health authorities on the same day.
Number of latest infections across the nation
According to official sources, 51 indigenous cases of the contagion were confirmed on Monday.
The fresh cases of the swine flu infection reported across different parts of the country were as follows: 28 in Maharashtra, five in Delhi, four in Rajasthan, three in Haryana, two each in Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab and Gujarat, and one each in Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.
Till date, 123,397 samples have been tested for swine flu both by the government and private laboratories across the nation, with 28,861 having been confirmed positive.
The highest number of positive swine flu cases has been reported from Delhi (9652). The state of Maharashtra stands at the second position with 5116 cases, while Rajasthan has accounted for 2101 cases till Feb. 1, 2010.
State-wise death count
In the state of Maharashtra--the epicenter of swine flu outbreak in India--317 people have lost their lives; highest death count in the country so far.
Meanwhile, 242 people succumbed to the lethal influenza in Gujarat, 176 in Rajasthan, and 141 in Karnataka.
The total swine flu deaths in other states are as follows: 93 in Delhi, 52 in Andhra Pradesh, 38 in Punjab, 36 each in Kerala and Haryana, 22 in Madhya Pradesh, 18 in Uttar Pradesh, 13 in Uttarakhand, eight each in Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh, seven in Tamil Nadu, six each in Chhattisgarh and Puducherry, five in Goa, four in Jammu & Kashmir, three in Orissa, two each in Assam, and one each in Mizoram and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.
Global swine flu update by WHO
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), nearly 14,711 people worldwide have succumbed to the lethal virus so far.
The greatest number of swine flu related fatalities, nearly 7166 deaths, has been reported from the United States since the virus first appeared in Mexico, the epicenter of last year’s swine flu outbreak.
On the other hand, 3,429 people have lost their lives in Europe and at least 2,981 in the East Asia and Pacific region, WHO said.
