Medical footwear comes as foot-care solution

In an exclusive marketing coalition, Surya Pharmaceuticals, Chandigarh, India together with U.S. based Footwear Company Crocs Footwear (now Crocs Rxtm Medical Footwear) is all set to launch a range of medical footwear in the country.

Crocs have previously developed medical footwear called ‘Crocs Rx Medical’ for arthritic or diabetic people.

Megan Welch, Crocs’ senior manager, Product Management, said, “We now have a great platform to retail our products in India with Surya Pharmaceuticals, which offers several health and pharma products that are of the same category.”

Spokespersons from the companies stated that the Crocs medical footwear will provide preventative foot-care solutions to people suffering from arthritis and diabetes.

Besides, Crocs Rx Medical will also provide a vast variety of foot-care products like shoes and socks, solely designed for medical and therapeutic purposes.

Furthermore, these foot-care products are enhanced with nano-silver technology and are made with Croslitetm Ag+ material, stated experts.

Nano-Silver ions prevent bacterial growth and have been known to effectively sterilize over 650 types of bacteria. Its use has now been expanded to various household products and electronic devices like vacuum cleaners, air cleaners and purifiers, room sanitizers, and water purification units.

To begin with, the company will introduce the medical footwear in 15 cities in India and will later on start distribution in around 100 cities over a period of six to eight months.

Fibre2Fashion quoted Hari Om Bhatia, president Surya Pharmaceuticals, as saying, “The company will also be utilizing its personal network of retail stores ‘Viva’ for selling the footwear.”

The company is known to have a total of 42 Viva outlets at present, stated Bhatia at a press conference in Chandigarh, India.

“This tie up is a part of Surya’s initiative to launch various global brands into Indian markets. These Crocs products will go a long way in ensuring preventive foot-care for diabetics, potential diabetics and people at large,” The Economic Times quoted Bhatia as saying.

The company is certain of accomplishing a sales target of over 6.5 lakh pairs over the next two years.

Also, the fact that the number of diabetics is increasing at a rate of 10 to 15 percent annually, the company aims at assured returns of about Rs 1 billion in two years’ time.
