Almost two-thirds of women have problems reaching orgasms, scientists have revealed.

A rare study conducted on 587 women, aged between 18 to 95, questioned six key areas of female sexual dysfunction (FSD), such as lack of desire, arousal issues, lack of lubrication, problems achieving orgasm, lack of satisfaction, and pain during intercourse.

The study revealed that women in twenties and thirties remain sexually unsatisfied due to distress or frustration as compared to their older counterparts.

Middle aged women more active sexually?
Dr Debra Fromer, co-author and head of the Centre for Bladder, Prostate, and Pelvic Floor Health at Hackensack University Medical Centre, New Jersey stated, “We found that 63 percent of the women suffered from FSD and that there were significant links between FSD and age, menopausal status, and use of selective anti-depressants.”

The study also revealed that middle-aged women enjoyed making love much more than those of younger generations, who complained of difficulty in reaching orgasm.

Scientists claimed that not only do these women have sex more often, they also have more pleasure.

While an alarming 54 percent of women aged 18 to 30 had difficulties achieving an orgasm, only 43 percent of those aged 31 to 45 experienced the same problem.

The findings revealed that the most sexually active age groups were 31-45-year-olds (87 percent), followed by 18-30-year-olds (85 percent) and then 46-54-year-olds (74 percent).

The problems that led to a decreased sex drive in women were lack of desire (47 percent), followed by orgasm problems (45 percent), arousal issues (40 percent), lack of satisfaction (39 percent), lack of lubrication (37 percent), and pain (36 percent).

According to the researchers, “Love-making between partners depends on confidence and the strength of the relationship. Often women have much higher self-esteem and feel more comfortable with their partners during the later years of their lives.”

The study findings were published in the British Journal of Urology.

Similar study earlier this year
Earlier this year, a similar study had unfolded the truth that middle-aged women were more fond of buying fancy lingerie, such as thongs, suspenders, and stockings.

Retailers said the reason was the women getting inspired by racy, on-screen role models, such as 'Sex And The City's' Sam, played by Kim Cattrall.
