The lizard was found in vegetable which was distributed to children under the mid-day meal scheme, the officials reported on Saturday.

Out of 91 students who took the lunch, 77 started vomiting and were admitted to nearest district hospital, the sources said.

Complaint against self group registered
Following parents’ protest, School Education Department has suspended the school Headmaster, RL Pandey.

Local police has also registered a case against a self-help group, which provided the meal under IPC section 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others).

Jagannath Singh, minister of labour, Madhya Pradesh, who is in-charge of Seoni district, met the sick students in the hospital and inquired the authorities about their health.

Singh has directed Manohar Dubey, district collector of Jaitara village, to look after the thorough inquiry into the incident, following which five member panel has been set up for disciplinary action against those found guilty.

Mid-day meal scheme, launched by the government in 2001, covers around 12 crore (120 million) Indian children. But, increased incidences of poisoned and unhygienic mid-day meals have raised health concerns among health ministry and government officials undertaking the program.
