Ways to Minimize Holiday Travel Stress
With most holidays reaching their conclusive ends, it’s a good time to get a closer look at what you could have done to avoid travel-stress and resulting anger from taking its toll.
Tips to Make Travel Easy with Children
1. Always take several games and toys along with you when traveling with children. As a general rule, when children travel, the newer toys are better than older toys because the newer toys tend to hold children’s attention for much longer than older toys.
2.It is a good idea to take sufficient drinks and snacks when traveling with kids as well. In particular, non-perishable foods such as hard fruit or cookies, mathis, etc can be helpful.
3. It is important to always make sure to carry an extra set of clothing for oneself and one's child. Do not take several bags of extra clothes. Rather, just take a few extra clothes. That way, even if there are unexpected leaks, spills, or motion sickness-related vomiting, it can be helpful.
4. The best way to achieve stress-free travel with kids is to do something or go somewhere that appeals to the entire family.
5. If you want a stress-free trip with kids, think about booking a small apartment with a kitchen, instead of just a hotel room. It might not cost that much more, and could save you a ton of hassle if you have early risers or need more room to spread out.
The key to shun stress while traveling is to keep your expectations low. If this isn’t quite feasible, try these simple but practical tips to avoid stress levels from shooting-up while traveling during the next holiday season.
Care for Your Travel Related Documents
Whether you travel within the boundaries of India or decide to go abroad, you are bound to require certain specific documents including your travel tickets, passports / driving license or other photo identity, traveler’s checks, ATM and credit cards, etc. Make sure that you have a separate pouch assigned for these travel related documents and assign a specific space for them in your back-pack/purse.
Loosing even one of these essential documents could spell a hell of a lot of trouble and more-over mean sacrificing your holiday plans for locating them or getting them in duplicate. Make sure that these documents are always kept in the hotel safe and not removed unless an absolute must.
Travel Light
The lesser your luggage, the more comfortable and hassle-free will be your travel. Traveling light means you do not have to rely on porters at airports or stations to carry your baggage and that you can shift from one place to another with the wink of an eye.
While on one hand it can help you save a lot of money, on the other it allows you to be more relaxed during transit. The key to traveling light lies in keeping only the bare minimum that you know you cannot do without. Start by make a checklist of your requirements and begin packing your clothes, shoes, and accessories only once you are through with the basic necessities.
Check Before you Leave
Even before you step out of your house, make sure that all your hotel bookings and travel arrangements are taken care of. Do not ever make the mistake of planning a tour without booking your hotel room and travel tickets, both to and fro, in advance.
Also check whether your flight/train is in time. There is no point leaving your house in time only to be stranded at the airport or station for hours. A little bit of checking and rechecking can avoid a great deal of inconvenience.
Be Prepared for the Worst
Although you must hope for the best, it would do you no harm by being prepared for the worst. The ‘What if’ attitude can help you keep a backup plan ready for all possible mishaps during your travel. Here are a few tips for averting the worst:
• With respect to money, keep cash in different pockets so that you do not loose all your money at once. Make two sets of ATM and credit cards and keep them in different places, so that if one is lost you have the second one to rely on. Also make sure you have your internet banking pin and passwords with you so that you can transfer money from one account to another with ease.
• Keep some snacks for emergency. You never know when hunger might strike and if you would have the option of buying food at that point of time.
• Keep a copy of your essential contact numbers with you. Even if you loose your cell, you should be able to call-up someone who can lend you a helping hand in an emergency.
•Avoid carrying too much cash. There is always going to be an ATM around, unless you are visiting the moon.
• Carry essential medicines and a mini first-aid kit. This is an absolute must if you have children along with you.
If even these tips cannot help you relax, try getting yourself a good body massage.
