UK’s leading doctor allegedly involved in illegal sex selection practice
Reportedly, 53-year-old is making huge amount of money by referring at least one woman in a week to a clinic in Northern Cyprus for sex selection procedure that is illegal in Britain under the Human Fertilization and Embryo Act 2008.
Though the procedure is illegal in the UK, it’s only permissible if there are dangers of gender-related diseases, like haemophilia and muscular dystrophy.
After reports of this shocking incident started doing the rounds, cross-bench peer Lord David Alton, a member of the all-party Parliamentary Pro-Life group launched an investigation into the matter, but as expected Kingsland denied all allegations leveled against him.
How illegal practice was uncovered?
This alleged ongoing illegal practice was uncovered by an undercover 'Mail on Sunday' investigator, who had approached Kingsland to undergo sex selective procedure.
As per investigator, upon knowing her desire to select the sex of her unborn child, Kingsland referred her to Cyprus clinic, where sex selection procedure is legal.
She claimed that Kingsland did not even bother to find out whether she could conceive naturally/not.
She also revealed that Kingsland is using NHS’s premises (in UK) and staff to organize this procedure for monetary benefits.
Reportedly, couples are shelling out over £14,000 for the procedure and Kingsland tells them that he will be faking ignorance, if anybody asked him about their reasons to travel to Cyprus.
Reasons behind condemning the procedure
The sex selection of unborn babies is a highly controversial issue worldwide.
Of course, couples opting for the procedure see no harm in it, as majority view it as personal choice.
However, critics of the procedure severely criticizes it saying that it’s like “playing God” and could lead to a new trend of “designer babies” where parents will be deciding every single little detail of their unborn baby, which is unethical and against nature.
Apart from critics, Catholic Church is also against the sex selection procedure including any IVF treatment primarily on the grounds that several embryos are killed in the process to get the perfect one.
Developed countries also worries that if they legalized sex selection procedure, it will only encourage the evil practice of killing female child in the womb in countries like India and China, where people see girl child as a liability and prefer sons.
