Researchers of a new study, dispelled the myth that women are chatterboxes, by revealing that when it comes to talking endlessly, men are bigger chatterboxes than women.

Interestingly, men not only talk more than women in social situations but also use too many words to get their point across, however, still fail to convey their message in an effective manner.

On the other hand, women not just communicate better but are also quite good at getting their points across in a simpler manner.

Commenting on this startling new discovery, lead study-author Professor Geoffrey Beattie, head of psychological science department at the Manchester University, said, "The difference between the myth of the female chatterbox and the reality was astounding. It is men who are more likely to talk for the sake of talking."

About research
To arrive at this intriguing conclusion, researchers analyzed the data from 56 previous studies into male and female communication habits and techniques.

Only two studies out of 56 labeled women as more talkative sex, while 24 concluded that men used more words per day as compared to women, found researchers.

Later on, Proffesor Beattie conducted his own study to find more about it. In the experiment, researchers recorded 50 conversations of men and women on varied subjects.

Afterwards, volunteers were provided with scripts of recordings with some words missing in it and were asked to fill in the blanks. As compared to words uttered by men, words spoken by women turned out to be hardest to guess, because they had used words and language carefully according to situation.

Researchers also found that majority of men used words like “really,” “you,” and “nice” quite frequently while paying compliments, while compliments given by women were more detailed and less predictable, hence sounded more genuine.

However, both sexes faired equally well when conversations revolved around current/social affairs.

Women victims of age-old cultural myth
Beattie further added taht women seem to be victims of age-old myth that they simply love to talk with/without topic.

"Men are more likely to talk for the sake of talking when engaged in social chit-chat by recycling their words with ritualistic and redundant language that doesn't contain new information.

Perhaps it’s time to finally recognize that female ‘nattering’ is a cultural myth,” concluded Beattie.
