Cancer is a word, not a sentence. Knowing it exists is not enough. Get informed pass it on!

Some vegetables and fruits can actually help in slowing the cancer growth, as per researches. Take a look at the daily food products that can help against the breast cancer.

Broccoli Cruciferous vegetables, particularly broccoli, makes great anti-cancer powerhouses. Thanks to the compound called sulforaphane present in the broccoli that helps the body to fight against the spread of tumors. A recent research revealed that sulforaphane may inhibit an enzyme, called an HDAC, that works to suppress the body's tumor fighting ability.

According to Johns Hopkins research, broccoli sprouts are even more powerful, as compared to mature broccoli, three-day old sprouts have 20 to 50 times the sulforaphanes.

Garlic According to the National Cancer Institute, garlic is a a cancer-fighting food for several reasons. As per a French study, women who were found with regular intake of garlic had significantly reduced chances of breast cancer. Also the other member of the family, onion, has a protective effect too.

The effects can be imparted to the antibacterial properties, or from its ability to block the formation of cancer-causing substances, halt the activation of cancer-causing substances, enhance DNA repair, reduce cell proliferation, or induce cell death.

Pomegranates These are famous for their anti-cancer properties as they have rich reserves of anti-inflammatory antioxidants, polyphenols. Pomegranates can offer special protection against the breast cancer as per experts. Research shows that, a phytochemical called ellagitannins, is present in abundance in pomegranates that interfere and halt the production of aromatase, an enzyme that, "increases hormone production in breast tissue."

This is very important as breast cancer depends on hormones, which means that it feeds to grow and spread on hormones like estrogen. "Hormone dependent cancers such as breast cancer are commonly treated with aromatase inhibitors, which block this enzyme," writes HuffPost blogger Dr. Nalini Chilkov.

Walnuts Though researches are still being carried out but the initial results are gladdening, as including walnuts in a diet can effectively slow down progression of cancer. The regular use of walnuts cut the risk of developing breast cancer into half.

Curcumin The compounds in turmeric have displayed significant results in repulsing a molecule called RANKL, which is found in the most deadly and aggressive breast cancer tumor cells.

Flax Seeds Most of the research pretaining to the anti-cancerous properties of flax seeds is done on mice or in-vitro cell cultures, but the results are profound. In one study, according to the American Cancer Society, the lignans from flax slowed down the spreading of tumour cells and slowed the cell's movement and "stickiness" of breast cancer.

Berries According to the American Institute for Cancer Research, berries possess powerful antioxidants, majorly rich in anthocyanins and ellagic acid, which in cell culture studies showed to reduce free radical damage to healthy cells. In other studies, they were noticed to slow down the growth and shorten the lifespan of breast cancer (as well as mouth, colon and prostate cancer) cells.

Green Tea Green tea is a rich source of in the polyphenol EGCG (epigallocatechin-3-gallate), which again has shown to slow down the spreading of breast tumour cells, according to breastcancer.org.

Tomatoes Tomatoes have antioxidant lycopene, which is thought to slow the cancerous cell growth.
