Testosterone shots cut heart attack risk too
According to the findings of the study, men who received a course of five injections experienced improved fitness levels besides a dramatic increase in sex drive.
Improved fitness levels translated into lower heart attack risk, researchers highlighted.
For the purpose of the study, US experts looked at men with medically deficient levels of testosterone, a condition known as hypogonadism.
Optimum levels of testosterone are vital for the development of male sexual characteristics like muscular looks. It is also crucial for maintaining bone strength and producing enough red blood cells besides improving mood.
During the course of the study, participants received a series of five testosterone injections or placebo.
Participants who received testosterone shots saw significant improvement in their sex drive besides their fitness levels, mood and their ability to concentrate.
“People who said they had a low libido dropped from 64 percent before the treatment to ten percent,” study’s co-author, Professor Hugh Jones, consultant endocrinologist at Barnsley Hospital, marked.
“The results are impressive. The reduction in erectile dysfunction was highly significant.”
Men who received active testosterone shots also reported a drop in blood pressure, bad cholesterol levels and waist size, all indicators of healthy heart.
