66-year-old delivers first baby, becomes oldest mum in UK
Adeney, a divorcee, had been taking infertility treatment at a clinic in Ukraine.
The delivery took place by the caesarean section in the Cambridge maternity unit of the hospital. Both the mother and the 5lb 3oz boy seem to be doing very well, according to the doctors.
Adeney has broken the national record of a 62-year old mother, Patricia Rashbrook, a child psychologist, who gave birth to her child in 2006.
A resident of Lidgate, Suffolk, where she owns a factory of plastic fastening at Mildenhall, Adeney will be staying in the hospital for a few days.
Adeney`s feelings
On being the oldest mother in Britain, Adeney said, “It doesn’t interest me that I am going to be the oldest mum in the country. It is not my physical age that is important, it’s how I feel inside."
She added, “I don’t have to defend what I have done. It’s between me and my baby and no one else.”
Adeney is not alone
Aedney may be the oldest mother in Britain but she is not alone as per global records. The oldest mother in the world is Omkari Panwar of India who delivered twins in 2008 at the age of 70.
In 2005, a Romanian woman, 66, gave birth to a daughter. In 2006, another 66-year-old woman from Barcelona gave birth to twin boys after embryo implantation.
In the same year, a 62 years old great-grandmother from California gave birth to her 12th child.
According to March of Dimes, the U.S. based health charity, older mothers are at greater risk of suffering from premature delivery, still birth, gestational diabetes and severe bleeding due to placental problems.
