London, November 7: Next time around, think twice before selecting a tie. While the tie may be considered as an important part of the man’s wardrobe, it could reveal much more about one's personality than one could imagine.
In a study conducted in Britain, researchers found that the color of the tie as well as the design of the tie gave valuable insights into the personality of the individual.
The results of the study published in the 'Daily Mail' revealed that a person wearing a purple tie could be bigheaded, arrogant and haughty. The person going in for the color green could be avaricious, covetous, and ill-fated. People looking for admiration often opt for pink color.
Psychologist Dr Ludwig Lowenstein of Southern England Psychological Services in Hampshire said, "Colors have been used throughout history to denote power, fear, anxiety and to have many other symbolic characteristics. Many people are impressed by color and how and when it is worn. Be careful as you may be judged on what you wear rather than who you are."
On the positive side, yellow color indicates uniqueness and trustworthiness, while the red tie screams of obsession, power, vigor and purpose. Navy exudes self-assurance and self-belief. Finally, maroon ties indicate that the person is tranquil.
The study was conducted on 2000 men who were questioned on what color ties they worn, what did they feel and what they thought of other people's ties.
Psychologist Dr Ludwig Lowenstein said, "When one considers the nature of the person wearing a particular color of tie one must also take into consideration other aspects of the personality such as whether the person dresses to impress, wants to attract, control or look superior.”
Kevin Stewart, fashion stylist at Harvey Nichols in Edinburgh, aptly put it as, “Choosing a tie should be about what you, as an individual, like to wear. This can be quite tricky.”
