New Delhi, March 31: The Delhi High Court Tuesday criticised the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for its callous attitude in treating patients and asked the hospital administration to avoid "internal fighting".
A bench headed by Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah expressed concern over patients not being treated properly due to ego clashes among different groups of doctors in the institute.
The court's observation came after it took cognisance of a letter from a mother of a month-old child, accusing AIIMS doctors of callousness in treating her child.
In the letter, Rekha told the court that her baby was suffering from heart ailment and was admitted to the AIIMS under the supervision of A.K. Bisoi, a cardio-thoracic surgeon.
However, the baby was neglected after Bisoi was suspended by the health minister March 9, she alleged.
"We are interested in saving the child. Tell us how you are going to do it. We are not concerned about internal disputes in the hospital," the court said, adding, "patients are suffering because of internal fighting."
"Nobody should be victimised because of ego clashes," it said while directing the hospital to file an affidavit and listed the matter Wednesday.
On March 11, the health officials announced that swine flu or influenza A (H1N1) took lives of three more people in country, taking the swine flu toll in India to 1,404 so far.
