Breast Reduction-The Buzz Word In Britain

Breast Reduction-The Buzz Word In Britain

Beauty and the perception of it has always changed with passing time, however, what till now had not changed, was the attitude of women about breast size. But, that too seems to have a modification of thought now, at least in the women of great Britain, as breast reduction features in the 5 most popular cosmetic procedures’ list of the nation.

Where on one hand, breast augmentation remains at No. 1 position, topping the charts of the most popular procedures by plastic surgeons, in both America and Britain, the number of breast reductions have seen a considerable increase in the recent years in UK whereas, in the US they are relatively very few.

Studies comparing the trends in the two nations reveal a large difference of preferences of women. However, both the studies conducted, were independent of each other.

A survey conducted on the doctors of The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons revealed that, plastic surgeons in Britain are performing one breast reduction for every two breast enhancements.

Whereas, the ratio, comes out to be 1:12 in America. Which implies that, doctors in America are performing only one breast reduction, for every twelve breast enhancements, says a study conducted on the doctors of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

However, the results of the two studies showed a lot of other differences too. These were –

• The British survey included male breast reduction procedures’ data also (though only 7 percent of the total numbers) in the overall data. Whereas, the American survey deals with them separately.

• The British survey is indicative of the increasing popularity of the eyelid surgery, which has seen a tremendous increase of 13% in the country as compared to the previous year; making it the second best sought after plastic surgery. It stands at No. 3 in America seeing only a 3% increase as compared tot the previous years.

• Liposuction takes the third slot in Britain again with a whopping 15% increase from last year. Though it is at second place in the American list, the procedure has seen no increase in the growth trends as compared to the year before.

• Facelifts have seen an increase in demand in both the countries. In Britain they are at number four position with an amazing 37% growth in demand of this procedure, whereas in America, they are at 6th position with a 14% growth.

• Nose jobs are at the sixth position in UK, up by 13% from the previous year’s data, the trend in US, however, shows a declining curve of 7%, with this being at No.3 in America’s list of favorites.

• The British survey holds no mention of botox injections, which quite oppositely, are the number one cosmetic procedure in America.

Different women, from different cultures, have different preferences and opinions on beauty and what makes it perfect. Nothing proves it better than the vast diversity of preferences in the surveys of both the nations.
