Breast surgery, enhancement or reduction, where on one hand is meant for sweet satisfaction of the self, has often led to a sour sense of dissatisfaction when calculations of the correct size for the desired look, go wrong. But not anymore. The new 3-d imaging technology will now help women see in advance the size that suits them best.
With a name quite apt, Breast Sculptor is the new-age, imaging system, that helps women get an idea how their breasts would look post surgery, helping in putting the dilemma of the correct size to an end, making decisions easier, faster and much to the satisfaction of the patients.
The system uses a series of digital pictures taken 360 degrees around the patient, which are later rendered into a 3D model of the patient by the software. The doctor can then use the same 3D model of the patient to clearly show to her how the implants would look on her and what would be the outcomes of the surgery.
The software uses graphic representations of the saline or gel implants, to give a detailed idea of the changes, to the patients.
One such woman who is quite impressed with this new technology is Travisano, 36, of Caldwell, N.J. Quite unsure of what would be the right size for her post surgery look; she consulted with Dr. Alan Rosen, a plastic surgeon in Montclair, N.J.
Travisano was quite pleasantly surprised by the new software the doctor introduced her to. “First, when I thought about it, maybe a full B,” Travisano said. “Then when I thought of it more, I was going for a full D and I was very unsure.”
However, once she saw herself through the Breast Sculptor, she made up her mind to go for a full C cup size from the existing 34 B. "He was able to show me on the screen, with my body, what I would like," Travisano said, obviously impressed with the software and its possibilities.
According to doctor Rosen the software has helped many realize that they do not need surgery at all.
“It allows us before surgery to actually play with the imager and see what implants we think will best fit that patient’s body,” Rosen said. “As a surgeon we try to do all of our thought process and use all of our judgment before we get to the operating room so that in the operating room we are efficient in how we do our surgery.”
Breast augmentation procedures are seeing a rise in numbers each year in America. 2007 alone saw 348,000 procedures performed. It is the most popular of the plastic surgeries and thus, with softwares like Breast Sculptor hitting the scene, associated problems, worries and doubts of many would be put to rest. Not only this, the use of this software would lessen the degree of post surgery dissatisfaction in women as they would be very much in picture of what they are opting for.

We're so close to calling plastic surgery as one of the beautiful arts taught in schools. It should be here to help not make people go crazy over their looks.
