Coming soon: Deo that reduces underarm hair growth

London, United Kingdom, December 10: If armpit hair is your petdefine peeve, here is the good news: a new product set to be launched in the UK next year, in the form of roll on and spray deodorants, claims to stunt hair growth.

The Sure and Dove hair minimizing roll-ons and sprays, both developed by Unilever, are said to slow down the growth of underarm hairs, and make them finer as well.

However, the products cannot take place of good old wax and razors but new Dove deodorants will slim hair down and noticeably reduce and retard their re-growth and also prevent skin irritation after shaving.

The researchers of Unilever cosmetics company have spent three years developing the new formula which is based on a ‘pro-epil’ complex and the company has swiftly moved to allay potential concerns over the safety of its new product.

Unilever claims that after using the products for four weeks, females can spot the difference, but, if they stop using the product, the hair will grow back. And, they cautioned that deodorant must not be used anywhere other than the armpits.

Dove spokeswoman Sian Jenkins told the Daily Mail, “Consumer testing has shown that women notice a difference to their underarms after just a few weeks — shaving time off their normal regime.”

The new products will be seen on market shelves in January next year and the company expects sales of the standard Dove and Sure deodorants to drop by a third, as the target audience of young females will be trying out the new variants.

The cosmetic company says that the product will be so popular with women that they will generate e £10 million in 2009.

Murray Bisschop of Unilever said, “We are really excited to be opening up an entirely new segment in the deodorant category.”

"This gives women an advanced added beauty benefit that no other deodorant brand currently offers,” he added.
