Dog food recalled amidst fears of Salmonella contamination

Idaho, United States, January 26: Rising fears of salmonella contamination in peanut butter and peanut paste were already keeping people off these products, and now concerns regarding dog-food contamination have also emerged.
Albertsons has voluntarily recalled Happy Tails multi-flavored dog biscuit products over fears of salmonella contamination in the peanut butter, which may be added in the product.
The recall covers dog treats sold at Albertsons stores in Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Montana, Utah, Wyoming, Elko, Nevada, and Williston, North Dakota.
"The precautionary move follows a nationwide recall issued by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) of peanut butter and peanut paste produced in its Blakely, Georgia processing facility," said Albertsons Public Affairs Manager Donna Eggers.
"The identified items have not been directly linked to the salmonella outbreak. However, because the safety of customers, and in this case their pets, is a top priority and out of an abundance of caution, Albertsons has voluntarily recalled the products."
The move comes after a huge commotion with many people falling sick after eating peanut butter and a nationwide recall of products by the Peanut Corporation of America.
Pets who have already encountered Salmonella infections may be lethargic and suffer from diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, vomiting and fever. Pets, in some cases, may not show any symptoms despite being infected. Such animals may act as carriers and transfer the infection to healthy animals or humans.
Experts suggest a veterinarian should be contacted if your petdefine, after having consumed the recalled food, suffers from any of the mentioned symptoms.
Federal authorities have urged the consumers to avoid any consumption of foods with peanut butter until investigation in the salmonella outbreak is not through.
The dog-food recall includes the following products:
• Happy Tails Multi-Flavored Dog Biscuits, 26 oz - UPC#: 41163-42406
• Happy Tails Multi-Flavored Dog Biscuits, 4 lb -UPC#: 41163-42403
On returning the product to any Albertsons store, customers will be given a full refund or exchange.
