Floss your way to a healthy mouth

An invisible bacterial film, called plaque develops on teeth every day and accumulates in those areas of the mouth that are beyond the reach of our toothbrush. Only brushing your teeth and tongue twice a day is not sufficient, one needs to clean the areas that brushing cannot. Flossing is an important aspect of keeping your gums healthy and avoiding bad breath.

According to a recently conducted study in U.S; just two weeks of flossing, added to regular tooth brushing, can significantly reduce bleeding gums and bad breath.

Flossing followed by brushing helps to remove plaque, a sticky substance that accumulates and hardens over time. If left untreated, plaque deposits can eventually lead to gum disease and tooth decay.

Ample flossing choices are offered today. Consumers can choose between waxed or unwaxed, flavored or unflavored, and regular or tape types of floss. Waxed floss slides between the teeth better than unwaxed floss. Flavored floss leaves a fresh taste in the mouth, and is especially recommended for those times when brushing or rinsing is not possible. Tape floss is typically thicker than regular floss and should be used by people with wide gaps between their teeth.

It is advisable to approach your dentist or hygienist to learn the proper flossing techniques. The basics are discussed below.

Wrap about 18 inches of floss around the middle fingers of your hands. Gently guide it between your teeth taking care not to let it snap as it might cut the gums. Scrape the side of your tooth with floss and repeat this method on all teeth.

Try not to miss any of your teeth and adopt a regular pattern and time for flossing. If not done properly, flossing can injure your gums. Be very gentle while inserting the floss between your teeth.

Your gums may bleed and be sore for the first few days that you floss but that should stop once all the bacteria are removed. Your gums will heal themselves. Flossing takes a decent amount of practice so don’t be discouraged if your initial attempts fail. Take a demonstration from your dental hygienist and once you learn the skill it won’t take much effort to maintain healthy teeth.

A New Hope for Life – Stem Cells

On Oct. 16, 2006, Carron Morrow, from Alabama was successfully cured through a pioneering study in which stem cells were used to regenerate her failing heart. Not long after the surgery, Morrow began to feel like the same old energetic person. "I knew within two months something was going on," Morrow said. "I could sing a whole song at church." She soon got back to her job, and subsequent tests confirmed that her heart was functioning normally once again.

Dr. Mikao Usui, in the year 1922, founded a system of natural healing that was not based on any religion but, was meant for a person’s holistic cleansing and healing. This, he named REIKI.
