Homeopathy – Myth and Reality

Homeopathy is a system of alternative medicine that aims to treat "like with like". With the growth of interest in this alternative medicine, more and more people are exploring new health care options. However, still numerous myths rule the stage:

Myth: Homeopathic medicines are only sugar pills which act more as placebos and have no medicinal value.

Fact: The white sugar pills are carriers for the medicine, which are alcohol based. Homeopathic treatment has been clinically tested and there is enough scientific evidence to prove its efficacy. All homeopathic medicines have to be FDA approved and are subject to the same regulations as other medicines.

Myth: Homeopathy is slow acting and cannot be used for diarrhea, fever, cough and cold.

Fact: This misconception is born out of the fact that most people leave Homeopathy for the last when all other medicines have failed. Naturally by this time the condition has become chronic and therefore takes longer to treat. In actual fact, Homeopathy is extremely fast acting in the early stages of any illness and can be effectively used in treating infections, fever, colds and cough, apart from others.

Myth: Homeopathy cannot be used for diabetic patients.

Fact: Of course it can be. Homeopathy offers excellent treatment for diabetes. Though there is a fear that the small sweet pill adversely affects the sugar intake. Firstly, the pills are made from lactosedefine, not glucose and secondly they are so minute that they hardly impact sugar eves. Sugar intake in the daily diet is significantly higher than that of a few globules. Besides, homeopathy medication can even be given as drops in water.

Myth: The Homeopath gives the same white pill for all types of illness. How can they be really effective?

Fact: Depending on the illness as well as the patient, homeopaths medicate with different medicines. While allopathy offers the same formula for the same disease, Homeopathy offers several alternative remedies for each condition. The medicine selected out of a range of more than 3000 different dilutions, is targeted to the individual problem. The white pill serves only as a vehicle for transfer of the medicine.
