Hooked Onto Texting? Watch Out For Your Health!

If you are hooked onto texting messages from your mobile phone, better watch out for its repercussions, because it might be damaging your health. A new study done by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) has found that many youngsters suffer from text message injuries.

CSP conducted a survey on 177 people aged between 16 and 24. It was discovered that 34 per cent of the people send 20 or more text messages each day. Sore neck, creaking and aching wrists can be a result of sending too many messages using the mobile phone.

Too much of texting can lead to serious physical injuries such as a feeling of uneasiness in the hands while texting. SMS addiction can lead to pain in the wrists, arms, neck and shoulders.

CSP spokeswoman, Bronwyn Clifford said, “Too much texting can result in pain and swelling of the tendons at the base of the thumb and wrist.” She added that the intrinsic design of the phones is not such that it can facilitate excessive texting.

In order to help texters, CSP has designed a five-step guide so that people become more aware about techniques of safer texting. It advises texters to use both hands while texting along with taking breaks for exercising their hands. It also says that a texter must hold the phone’s screen in front of his face while keeping his hands closer to the body.

UK is one of the several countries in the world where the number of SMS messages sent per day is very high. According to the Mobile Data Association, the number of text messages sent each week in the country has jumped up by 30% since 2007.
