Men don't notice? Try wearing red
Rochester, New York, January 28: 'Men are like bulls, they get attracted to red'. While that may not actually be considered true for the animals since they are colorblind, men surely have an appeal for red, say scientists.
Red – the color of love, starts dominating the scene as we approach Feb. 14, the Valentine’s Day. Ever wondered what is special about his hue? Well, scientists have recently discovered the potential of red to attract men to women.
A study by University of Rochester psychologists Prof Andrew Elliot and post-doctoral researcher Daniela Niesta reveals that women in red have better magnetism for men; the color makes men feel more amorous towards the fairer sex, without revealing even a slightest hint of its power to attract.
“It’s fascinating that something as ubiquitous as color can have an effect on our behavior without our awareness,” said Elliot, who conducted five psychological experiments to demonstrate the pull of red.
The study, published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, analyzed the response of men to pictures of women in different colors. Men, under all conditions, responded better to women who were either wearing red or were presented in a red frame.
Interestingly, the effect of red was only limited to men. Women did not seem to like the ones in red any better than those in other colors.
Scientists assert that men’s fascination for red has deeper biological roots, fortifying it with the fact that females are known to blush (or go red) with the most gentle swish of love, and female baboons and chimpanzees also redden when approaching ovulationdefine, sending a clear sexual signal intended to attract males.
“Our research demonstrates a parallel in the way that human and nonhuman male primates respond to red,” concluded the authors.
So, for girls waiting to be asked out, its time you slip into a red number.
