It is already known that men fall in love faster than women. Now scientists give some more evidence that often men, not women, fall in love with women at first sight. They claim men require less than 10 seconds to fall in love.
In a study, researchers have found that the time needed for a man to fall in love at first sight is just 8.2 seconds. They say the longer a man gazes at a woman when they meet for the first time, the more interested he is.
If the gaze lasts just four seconds, he may not be all that impressed, but if it breaks the 8.2 second barrier, he could already be in love, the scientists say.
To reach their conclusion, scientists secretly tracked the eye movements of 115 students, as they spoke to actors and actresses, through hidden cameras. All the participants were asked to rate the attractiveness of their partners with whom they were in conversation.
The researchers found men looked into the eyes of female partners they considered beautiful for an average of 8.2 seconds, but that dropped to 4.5 seconds when they did not find the actresses attractive.
However, the same cannot be said for women. Scientists said the female students gazed at their conversation partners for the similar amount of time whether they find them attractive or not.
The researchers believe that men use eye contact to seek out fit and fertile mates, while women mostly avoid attracting unwanted attention due to the risks of unwanted pregnancy and single parenthood.
