Men’s Armpit Odor Attracts Women – Study

‘Someone, Somewhere Is Made For You’ - Let your armpit odor decide! A Man’s underarm odor actually attracts women and may be his key to getting closer to his dream girl, a new study conducted at the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania finds.

Pheromones, a complex compound present in the men’s underarm sweat triggers a strong involuntary effect on females making them feel more relaxed, researchers claim.

Adding to it, on further exposure to the odorless pheromones the discharge of the luteinizing hormone - one responsible for controlling the menstruation in women- sped up, researchers found.

More interesting, these chemicals present in the armpit sweat also discourage close relatives from getting attracted to each other, thus suppressing inbreeding. An important player in sexual attraction - the human genome called the major histocompatibility complex (MHC), it is believed that women can deduce when a man's MHC is different from their own.

Researchers speculate that the results of the study prove a big boost for the medical as well as cosmetic world alike. Where on one hand, these pheromones could trigger the research for newer fertility drugs, future men's fragrances and deodorants can contain pheromones that can allow them to attract any women.

Identified by Peter Karlson and Martin Lüscher in 1959, Pheromone is a chemical that triggers a natural behavioral response in another member of the same species. Though their use among insects has been well documented, only a few well-controlled scientific studies have been conducted till-date suggesting the possibility of pheromones in humans.
