The dream of every woman to have slim and trim figure, from now on, may not just be linked to looking attractive with prefect posture but may also be associated with cutting down on the risk of developing pancreatic cancerdefine.
A new study published in the British Journal of Cancerdefine- suggests as compared with slim women, overweight women have 70 per cent more chances to fall prey to this deadly ailment.
The flesh concentrated around a fat women’s belly act as a fuel that catalyses the emergence of pancreatic cancer. Extra pounds do make a woman prone to the illness.
Until this study gave a new insight into human physiology, it was believed that smoking and chronic pancreatitis can lead to pancreatic cancer.
In a seven years research conducted by a team of researchers at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, 138,000 postmenopausal women in America were kept under observation, to analyze how obesity can cause pancreatic cancer.
The results proved that obesity doubtlessly facilitates the development of chronic pancreatitis and ultimately, cancer. Out of 251 women who were caught by the deadly sickness, 78 were those who had highest waist-to-hip ratios, while only 34 women with the lowest waist-to-hip ratios became victims of pancreatic cancer.
Therefore, taking into account the age and the smoking status, overweight women had 70 per cent more vulnerability towards developing the disease.
Diabetes and abnormal insulindefine levels are closely linked to the occurrence of pancreatic cancer, a contention put forth by earlier studies.
And on similar grounds, the current study claims that the extra fats alter the levels of insulin in the body that significantly swells the risk of developing pancreatic cancer.
"Pancreatic cancer is associated with particularly poor survival, so it's crucial that we learn more about how to prevent the disease. About a quarter of all cancer deaths are caused by unhealthy diets and obesity and it's important that people are aware of this risk," Dr Lesley Walker, director of cancer information at Cancer Research UK, said.
So, heavy women just be wary about your weight, overweight can throw you in the shackles of pancreatic cancer.
