Penile extender shows promise in increasing penis size
New York, March 7: Here is a good news for men who think size matters…very much. A magical gadget now offers a new hope for those men who are unsatisfied with their penis size and do not hesitate to undergo any surgery to lengthen their penis.
In an Italian study, the extender, called Andro-Penis, increase the flaccid length of the penis by up to 32 percent and their erectile function by up to 36 percent after men wore the device daily for six months.
The penile extender uses a plastic ring, two rods and a silicon band.
Researchers from San Giovanni Battista Hospital at the University of Turin, Italy, tested the device on 21 men with an average age of 47. Only 16 of the 21 enrolled in the program completed the yearlong study. Five participants discontinued the treatment due to painful bruising, follow up, or satisfactory results after three months.
The “highly-motivated” study volunteers used the extension device every day for six months. In the first month, they wore it for an average of five hours, for five hours in the third month and four hours in the sixth month.
"Twenty-one highly motivated patients, with an average age of 47, were enrolled and 16 completed the 12-month study," says study consultant and urologist Dr Paolo Gontero.
"Having undergone psychosexual counselling, to make sure that the treatment would be beneficial, the men were asked to wear the Andro-Penis device for between four and six hours a day for six months. The device comprises a plastic ring, two dynamic rods that produce the traction and a silicon band to hold the penis in place. The men were told to increase the traction from 600g in month one to up to 1200g in month six. Follow ups were performed in months one, three, six and 12."
The Italian researchers found that men whose average flaccid penile length was 2.82 inches at baseline saw growth of up to 32 percent over six months, meaning their penile length had increased to 3.72 inches in month 12.
According to Gontero, erectile function scores also improved during the test. The extender users’ average erectile function scores were improved by up to 36 percent, from 19.9 out of 30 at baseline to 27.1 out of 30 at 12 months.
Further, their average stretched penile length was 3.79 inches at baseline, which had boosted by 18 percent to 4.45 inches in month 12.
Authors of the study believe their experiment is the first clinical trial that has shown a significant improvement in length, although no significant increase in penile girth was shown. They also suggest that this treatment could provide a viable alternative to surgery.
"Our study showed that the penile extender device produces an effective and durable lengthening of the penis, both in the flaccid and stretched state" said Gontero.
"If these results are confirmed by further research, we propose that the device should be used as a first-line treatment option for men seeking a penile lengthening procedure," he concluded.
The findings were published in the March issue of British Journal of Urology International.
