Relay For Life to celebrate 25 years

United States, January 5: As they usher into the New Year, cancerdefine combatants across the world begin preparing for the Relay for Life events, designed to celebrate cancer survivorship and raise money for the American Cancer Society (ACS). This year is very special for the relay as it marks 25 years of the program.

Relay for Life is the largest fundraising walk in the world and events are conducted in many countries across the planet. An International Relay for Life Program of the ACS helps in educating other countries around the world regarding the events and the execution methods.

Currently 19 other countries outside the United States are working with the American Cancerdefine Society to spread awareness and raise money for the cause.

The relay is an overnight event, which has teams of 8 – 15 people spending the night walking around a track to raise money to fight cancer. At least one member of each team stays on the track during the entire event.

A lot of time during the event is spent listening to music, camping out and participating in various family and cancer awareness activities. It is about enjoying the company of friends, relatives, neighbors, and co-workers while attempting to fight a major cause of deaths worldwide.

What started as a 24-hour walk has now turned into a huge yearly event that continues to raise money to help save lives.

The event celebrates survivors, funds research and cancer education, while motivating the community to take part in advocacy of efforts of the American Cancer Society. It helps make the important services more available for cancer patients and their families.

Through its website, the American Cancer Society urges people to participate, saying-- One day. One night. One community. Your Relay For Life is about celebration, remembrance, and hope. By participating, you honor cancer survivors, pay tribute to the lives we've lost to the disease, and raise money to help fight cancer all right here in your community.
