Only last month, experts at UK’s Nottingham University found a clear link between regular sexual activities and lower prostate cancerdefinedefine risk. According to them, men who indulge in frequent sexual activities in their 50s have a much lower risk of developing prostate cancer, a malignancy of one of the major male sex glands.
However, they suggested that men who have too much sex, more than 20 times a month, in their 20s and 30s are at a significantly elevated risk of developing prostate cancer, the most common cancer in men.
Some other studies show that regular sexual activity can actually be good for erectile function, cure cold, increase longevity, stop mood swings and reduce the chances of a heart attack.
In July last year, a Finnish study suggested that men aging between 55 and 75 years who do not indulge in frequent sexual activities have higher risk of developing erectile dysfunction (ED), as compared to those who have it at least once a week,
Upon a five year follow-up, researchers at the Tampere University Hospital, Department of Urology, Tampere, Finland found that sexual intercourse less than once per week, doubled the risk of developing erectile dysfunction, while having sex three or more times a week lowered the risk fourfold.
ED is a medical term that can be defined as the repeated inability of the male partner to attain or sustain an erection firm enough to carry-on and complete a sexual intercourse
In one study, it has been found that having sex once or twice a week fortifies human immune system
define. While making love, the human body produces higher levels of immunoglobulin A, or IgA, a substance found in saliva
define and the nasal lining that helps fight colds and flu.
A separate study, conducted on Welsh men, links the regular sexual activity with longevity. The study found that men who have sex less than once a month are twice more likely to die prematurely than those who have sex twice a week.
“Sexual activity seems to have a protective effect on men's health,' says GP Dr Sarah Brewer. “This may be linked with the effects of the master sex hormone, DHEA or dehydroepiandroterone, which is made in the adrenal glands and functions as a building block of other hormones
define such as oestrogen, testosterone and progesterone.”
“DHEA levels rise just before orgasm and ejaculation to three times higher than normal, and some claim this is how regular sex can prolong your life,” she adds.
