Sex during Pregnancy

Once you get to know about your pregnancy than the important question arises is will you be able to make love during your pregnancy or not. Well, the answer is yes you can have sex through out your pregnancy. It should be avoided in circumstances like

• If one has history of miscarriages, premature labour or bleeding in pregnancy than it may be advisable not to have it and it’s always better to check with your docter or midwife first.

• Than women who has condition called placentadefine praevia (in which placenta is lying near to the cervix) are also advised not to have sex.

Sexual Drives

Each female is different and so are their sexual drives, a majority of women have sexual peak during their mid-pregnancy while others may feel more sensual at certain time in their pregnancy and that’s quite normal. This may be due to the physical and the hormonal changes in the body and the other reason could be that she doesn’t have to get worried about conceiving and secondly her body is getting larger and larger.

Having sex during pregnancy is not at all harmful but is quite healthy,as it can exercise your pelvic floor, relaxes you and if you have orgasm than exercises the muscle of the womb. One doesn’t have to worry about the fetus as it is safe in the womb and neither you nor your partner can harm her. Just be sure that your partner doesn’t have any genital infection which could be passed out to the baby.

Is it’s normal to go off sex drive during pregnancy?

In the early stages of pregnancy some females feel too sick, nauseated, tired to even think about sex and than on later stages they feel there bumps hurt too much and they are not comfortable having intercourse. You must find out other ways so that you can make love and not sex only, give each other massage, holding each other in one’s arm, kissing etc. The main aim is to get love and give love so find other ways of being intimate tighter. A sexual relationship will be only successful when the two people wanting to make love are aware of each others desires and whether one is pregnant or not.

Positions

As your body gets bigger and bigger you may find uncomfortable having sex in certain positions so you may experiment with positions. Many couples find pregnancy to be a time when they can get adventurous and they can add new dimensions to their sex life. Have your sense of humor because you never know at what time (mostly inappropriate time) your baby gets active.

• If your partner is at top than make him keep his weight off your abdomendefine

• You can be at top and this way your bumps wont hurt

• Facing each other side by side

• From behind

A couple can experiment with other positions as well and see in which position they are more comfortable.

Can sex trigger the start of labour?

It’s recommended not to have sex during the last few months of your pregnancy as sex can help to get you into labour at that time. Actually the reason behind this is that sperm has hormone prostaglandin, which is same as synthetic hormone given to induce labour. When a female gets aroused, her body releases a hormone named oxytocindefine, which stimulates uterusdefine and can start contraction. So, it’s advisable not to indulge in sex during last few months.

Few Myths

It’s not safe for baby

Well by now you would have come to know after reading this article that it’s completely safe. The baby is in a bag of fluid and during first few months it’s so small that you can’t even feel it leave alone hurting it.

Having a glass of wine once in a while is ok while you are pregnant

Alcohol in any form is not at all good for the development of the fetus. One must stop drinking from the day one she come to knows about her pregnancy. The unborn baby can be at risk for brain damage and developmental problems.

Sex during pregnancy leads to deformity

It’s entirely a myth that intercourse during this period will lead to deformity. Baby is quite protected in a woman’s womb and there is no way you can hurt it. A common myth associated with this is that the partner’s penis can harm the baby; the cervix is tightly clamped shut so don’t worry.

Sex is great during pregnancy

It can be and it can’t be depending on the sexual libido of an individual. Don’t over expect.

No oral sex

You can go for oral sex and it can be a good substitute if you feel having sex normally is uncomfortable or a bit risky. But one important thing to keep in mind is telling your partner beforehand not to blow air into your vagina as blowing hard can cause air embolism (obstruction of a blood vessel) which can potentially KILL YOU and the BABY.

I won’t feel comfortable and what if my tummy comes in the way

I have already mentioned the positions you can choose from which will not let you feel uncomfortable and than an old proverb goes like “Where there is will, there is a way.” You and your couple can experiment with different positions and see which suits you both.

Marriage makes sex better and pregnancy is a time when you can explore more and thus don’t let this opportunity go out of your hands. Though it’s always better to consult your doctor first and after he gives you green signal you both can move ahead.
