Smoking Causes Male Sexual Impotence

Now and than many studies have come into light showing how smoking not only mess with the sexual life of an individual but also leads to impotency in male. Many agencies have urged cigarettes companies to attach a label telling people about the risk of impotence besides other health diseases. In Thailand the cigarettes sold have ‘impotence warning’ attached to them.

One would be amazed to know that many men and women don’t know about the impotency risk associated with the smoking. They don’t think smoking could be a cause for impotency.

And, the reality is that male smokers in the age group of 30 to 40 are 50% more likely to fall prey to impotency or erectile dysfunction. The younger people are more prone to impotency due to the fact that the other causes such as high blood pressure, cholesterol level, heart diseases are generally absent in the younger age.

"Smoking may have a more apparent impact on erectile dysfunction in young male smokers than it does in older male smokers," according to Drs. Naomi M. Gades and Steven J. Jacobsen of the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota.

In one of the report published by the BHS (British Medical Association) named Smoking and Reproductive Life, studies says that smoking causes erectile dysfunction, as it damages the blood circulatory system due to the presence of various toxics in the cigarette, along with the carbon monoxide. Due to this toxic affect almost 300,000 UK men in the age group of 30 to 40 are suffering from erectile dysfunction.

The reason cited for impotency is due to the circulatory or vasculardefine problem. The blood vessels carrying blood to the penis is not able to work properly and thus erection is not maintained. Apart from these smoking do affects the quality of the sperm like the sperm count is lower; there will be reduction in the volume of ejaculation, malformed sperm and impaired sperm mortality making it less likely that it will reach the sperm and fuse with the egg.

Impotency could be taken as the earlier signal telling the grave danger in the form of underlying vascular problems. Due to smoking the small blood vessels of penis stops working thus indicating that smoker is doing real harm to the main arteries in the heart.

Smoking not only affects only an individual but the people around them are also at risk. They are not only putting themselves in danger but also the loved ones who are living along with them and who had no choice than to breathe in the same air.

ABC of Weaning

Weaning is the process of gradually introducing the infant to solid diet and reducing the supply of mother’s milk. A fully weaned infant derives all its nutrition from solid foods and is off breast milk completely.
