Sound therapy, though relatively new has now arrived on the healing frontier. It may sound a bit ambiguous, with a name that is not very “medicinal”, but the name really sums up the whole therapeutic art. To use sound waves and vibrations of different frequencies in order to induce desired changes in the human psyche and hence in the physical being is what sound therapy is all about.
In “energy medicine”, the fact that the whole universe is built up of vibrations and vibratory particles is of prime importance. These facts imply that certain vibrations artificially fed, would deploy changes that might not take place otherwise. Preventive causes benefit a lot from these methods and research for specific frequencies and vibration combinations is on to determine the same, with precision and hence deal out healing solutions to many people for both psychological and physical ailments.
A very basic example of sound therapy is music. How many times, there are certain songs which guide the mood of the listener into a certain direction. Some songs just make you dance, while some are solemn. Some give the listeners, shudders. Some songs relax the hearer. This is all because different tunes have different effects on people and some are strong enough to influence them mentally.
Sound that pleases the listener is classified herein and means that these frequencies are deemed under “pleasant” in the brain. In music, there are certain combinations which when played alongside, sound soothing. If played with other “non-matched” notes they do not mix and sound repulsive. Good musicians are well aware of these combinations and have given them many names like scales, chords, progressions etc.
In sound therapy these basics are taken to the next level. The knowledge of these scales is taken and the frequencies of the various notes are measured. How they affect the being upon exposure is then evaluated and sounds are classified in this manner. The therapists deal out a collection of assorted sounds to the patient and effects like stress relief, anxiety reduction and even pain relief are observed. These help improve the patient’s mood and emotional state.
Scientifically, we can analyze the audio waveform for minerals, vitamins, proteins and all matters of substance including drugs and toxins. In stress disorder, for example, we can then dish out various frequencies which we know are those of the deficient nutrients. Hence we can artificially induce the actions of many drugs and medicines with very precise target groups. This method can also be used for detoxifying, by canceling out toxins using reverse frequencies.
Sound therapy with further advancements appears to be a very promising field in therapeutic medicine. Colleges and universities in the U.S. have introduced courses at the graduate and post-graduate level. With further advancement, we can all imagine a future where we would just play an assortment of sounds on our headphones and get instant relief from a cold or flu.
