Whatever symptoms a person is suffering from – headaches, back pain, depressiondefine – a good sex life may have a salutary effect on all of them. Various studies have documented the connection between sex and good health in specific – in sometimes unexpected ways. Here’s how sex can heal;
• The Heart:
A lack of satisfaction has always been linked with poor heart condition. Also, medically, vigorous sex is like a mini-workout. On average, a woman weighing 55 kilos burns about 8 calories a minute while making love, whereas, a 80 kilo man burns around 12 calories per minute.
• The immune systemdefine:
Stress hampers the immune system, making the body more susceptible to ailments, from colds to high blood pressure and ulcers. Intercourse counters stress and leads to total body relaxation. Though the effect lasts for just a few hours, with regular sex one progressively feels less stressed.
• Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS):
Sexual intercourse helps alleviate the symptoms of PMS in women. Blood flow to the pelvis increases five to seven days before a period, causing bloating and cramps. Muscle contraction during orgasm force blood to flow rapidly away from the pelvic region and back to general circulation, thus, loosening tightness.
• Aches and pains:
During sexual stimulation, the central nervous system releases certain chemicals that produce a ‘pain-blocking’ effect. Orgasm itself is a natural analgesic. Endorphinsdefine (capable of soothing the multitude of pain) activated during orgasm travel to receptor sites throughout the body and produce a morphine-like effect.
• Insomnia:
Lovemaking is a remarkable sedative. The better and more vigorous the sex, the easier it becomes to fall asleep.
• Mental health:
People with fulfilling sex lives have in separate studies reported to be less anxious, less violent and less hostile. Sexual satisfaction makes one more self reliant and more spontaneous.
• Skin treatment:
The estrogen hormone produced during lovemaking makes the hair shine and skin smooth. Moreover, gentle and relaxed lovemaking strokes reduces the chances of suffering dermatitis, skin rashes and blemishes. The sweat produced during intercourse cleanses the pores and makes the skin glow.
• Dental:
Kissing each day helps keep the dentist away. Kissing encourages salivadefine to wash food from the teeth and lowers the level of the acid that causes decay, preventing plaque build-up.
