Valentine Over-The-Counter Viagra
Feb 14 which is celebrated around the world as St. Valentines Day is also designated as National Impotence Day in Britain and Boots, British’s biggest pharmacy chain has chosen this day to sell Viagra over- the- counter at few stores.
Viagra, an anti-impotence drug will be available freely to men aged 30 to 60 after a brief consultation with the pharmacist who will take into account their medical history, check blood sugar and cholesterol level.
Dr. Aandrew McCullough, a sexual health expert at New York University Medical Center said, "This sets a very bad precedent and should not be condoned."
"This system is basically prescribing medication without doctors" he said.
The consultation session will be for an hour and if nothing is found than they can obtain four Viagra drugs for a sum of $97 but if they need a refill than they have to visit a private doctor for that. Experts fear that if drugs are sold over the counter than it may lead various health hazards.
Viagra is oral pill used to deal with male impotency. It is needed to be taken orally before having sex and results show that in 70% of cases it works. This drug is sold over internet without prescription and was developed by Pfizer in 1996. Though its safe but like every drug it too has some side effects like heart stoke, vision impairment etc.
This is the trial programme by Boot and it will last for six months only and than they will see whether it should be expanded to other stores. Another programmes offered by Boot are weight loss, morning-after-pill and hair retention.
