Want to Be Happy? Start Reading Books

Everyone wants to be happy, but achieving that goal can be tricky sometimes. A new study has outlined one excellent and simpler way to get happier- simply by reading books. Reading not only gives you an insight into different aspects of human nature or makes you smarter, it also makes you happier and successful in romantic relationships, suggests a new study.

According to a novel study by the National Literacy Trust, literate people are more likely to get married or live in their own house. Moreover, these people are happier and are more likely to be in a lasting relationship, the study suggests.

What’s more, literate individuals are better paid, drink and smoke less, suggested the novel study. Based on analysis of figures from the last 10 years, the study looked at the effects of literacy on the nation's happiness.

The study, published by the National Year of Reading, not only looked at the relationship between literacy and happiness, but also the effects of poor and good literacy skills.

After looking at the effects of reading habit on the happiness of people, especially of men, the study found extremely huge differences between those with good literacy skills and those without.

The researchers defined poor reading skills as the equivalent of a reading age of seven, while good reading skills are equivalent to the reading age of an 11-year-old, or at least a grade C at General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE).

The report noted that by the age of 34, 68% of men and 70% of women with good literacy skills are co-habiting or married, compared to 52% of men and 60% of women with low reading skills. And, only half of the men with poor literacy skills were satisfied with their lives, compared to 78% of men who can read well.

The report further noted that people with poor reading skills were also likely to drink and smoke more. Almost eight out of 10 people or 78% with good reading levels were likely to own their own home, compared to four out of ten or 42% of those with poor skills.

Reading book is a good habit. It's a great way to learn and can improve a person’s skill at reading books faster. It not only improves your vocabulary but also your imagination. Now the findings of the novel study have linked this habit with the happiness and successful love life.
