The case of 3-month-old Bitta was represented by Saaksham Foundation in the children`s court on May 12, 2009. Saaksham Foundation has strongly urged for strict police action, and is trying to obtain financial aid for Bitta for her complete treatment.

In this regard, the foundation had sent a letter to the Welfare Society of Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University (CSMMU) on May 2, 2009.

The hearing was done at Child`s Welfare Committee (CWC) at Government Children`s Home Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

The case still remains pending at the chairman`s end, and the CWC has sent a strong letter of recommendation to the chairman after hearing on May 12, 2009 to grant financial relief to the child, which is her right as per Juvenile Justice Act.

Sadhana Mehrotra, member of CWC, said, "Not only financial aid but also timely police action against the culprits should be made mandatory so that in such cases the relief and help can be given in shortest possible time and the culprits apprehended without delay.

“This way an example should be set which will discourage such heinous crimes against children in the future.”
