Wrinkles – The stubborn lines of age

One morning we look in the mirror and stranger stares back at us. This complete stranger with signs of aging on the face is none other than our own reflection .The truth is hard to accept but the wrinkles cannot be escaped because each one of us has to reach this stage of life one day.

The skin is the body’s waterproof coat, protecting it from the outside world and preventing it from drying out. It is also a sense organ sensitive to touch pressure, warmth and pain. As they say skin is a reflection of the inner body. The skin of a person speaks of how healthy the body is. As we age the skin begins to show signs of aging in the form of wrinkles. But these signs of aging show more if a person has spent a lot of time in the sun, at tanning salons, or smoking cigarettes.

Our skin is basically composed of three layers. The outermost is the thin, tough epidermis, which consists mostly of dead cells that are constantly shed and replaced by new skin cells. The middle layer is the thick, living inner dermis layer containing nerves, blood vessels, sense receptors, glands, and hair follicles. And the innermost layer is the subcutaneous.

When a person is young, he or she doesn't have wrinkles because the skin does a great job of stretching and holding in moisture. The dermis has an elastic quality thanks to fibers called elastin that keep the skin looking and feeling young. A protein in the dermis called collagen also plays a part in preventing wrinkles. With age the dermis loses both collagen and elastin, so the skin gets thinner and has trouble getting enough moisture to the epidermis. The fat in the subcutaneous layer that gives skin a plump appearance also begins to disappear, the epidermis starts to sag, and wrinkles form.

Wrinkles do not happen overight. There is no particular age to get it. Some get them at an early age of 20 and some hardly get any wrinkle till the age of 50. The credit for the good skin not only goes to good care that an individual has taken but in some cases it goes to good genes too, as they also play an effective role. Precautions should be taken so that you can keep your skin wrinkle free for a longer time.

One should avoid going in direct sunlight during peak hours.

Sunscreen should be applied daily before going out of house.

Smoking is the biggest human enemy as it affects not only our skin but also damages our body.

One should drink as much water as possible.

Follow the beauty regime of cleansing, toning and moisturising twice a day, once in the morning and than at nite before going to bed.

Eat fresh fruits and include green leafy vegetables in your diet.

Botox treatment can be taken from skin specialist.

Rhytidectomy treatment (facelift) is also effective and it can be performed on whole face or neck, lower face or eyebrow area only.

Daily apply under eye cream.

The best way to fight wrinkle is to lead a healthy life and take really good care of ones skin. Wrinkle is a natural process and it should be accepted as it comes. Take it as a part of life.
