Deaf hold better eyesight than normal people

Difference in retinal development is the reason for better vision in people who are born deaf, say experts from the University of Sheffield in UK.

The findings, published in the journal ‘PLoS ONE,’ indicate that adults with hearing impaired, either from the time of birth or within the first years of life, have better peripheral vision due to difference in retinal development than those who can hear.

New eye implant promises vision to blind

A new eye implant developed by British surgeons might help restore sight to hundreds of blind people.

The surgery, involving the implantation of a tiny device, small enough to be barely seen in the eye, lasts for just 15 minutes.

Currently being carried out at the Manchester Royal Infirmary, the surgery is found to be effective against glaucoma, a disorder caused by eye pressure triggered by natural fluids, which are unable to drain away because of a blockage.

The stent
During the surgery, a stent, a tiny titanium channel, is inserted into the eye which acts as a permanent drainage route.

Viewing the wrong font can cause computer vision syndrome--study

A new US research comes as a surprise for all those who work on computers for hours together from home or workplace thus taxing their eyes.

According to the study initiated by the Vision Ergonomics Research Laboratory and funded by Microsoft, using the right font while working on the computer can work wonders in saving the eyes from disorders like the computer vision syndrome (CVS).

Excessive exposure to the computer screen can damage eyes in the long-run but the researchers found that ‘Verdana’ is an eye-friendly font and the ideal text size that is comfortable for the eye is 10-12.
