Postpartum illness is a

Postpartum illness is a phase which one does go through after child birth. Reason could vary and till now the exact reason could not be known, well we think it may be due to the hormonal changes which in turn causes chemical changes in the brain, that takes place during the pregnancy and after child birth. So, one gets depressed.

Family is the source of strength and they can help a lot in this phase. Talk freely with your partner about your emotions and feelings, its always good to let out your pent up emotions. Take along your husband and consult a good psychologist for the therapy, it will no doubt do you good and you can see the result in the first few weeks itself, the therapy must be short term only. Spend some time with your partner.

Keep a diary with you and write about your feelings and emotions almost daily, it will not only serve as gateway for your feelings but after a while when you re-read it again you will see how better you feel. You can also join a support group where you can find other women having same problem and thus talking with them will help you a lot. One important thing, stop being 'Supermom' remember you can't do each and everything yourself so get an helping hand.

Take walk, do some household chore or anything you like but don't be alone for a longer time. Give rest to yourself, try to take nap while the baby is asleep.

You can take antidepressant after consulting your doctor, especially, the women who are breastfeeding their child should know the pros and cons of medication before they start taking it as it will not only affect them but there child as well. Than there is 'Talk Therapy' where you can talk to psychologist, therapist or social worker and they help you in coping with postpartum depressiondefine.
