AAP expands age range for ADHD diagnoses

According to the new guidelines issued by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), children as young as 4 to as old as 18 can now be diagnosed for Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Based on the findings of recent studies, the new guidelines expand the age range for diagnoses and management of ADHD in children from the previous limits of 6 -12 years.

The Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) revealed in a recent study that the count of children suffering from ADHD has risen to 11 percent as against the 4 percent in the year 2005.

Easily distracted people have excess grey matter

Do you have a short span of attention and have no idea why? Well, an intriguing new study published in the 'Journal of Neuroscience' states that those who get distracted easily have more than average volume of grey matter in certain brain areas.

To investigate distractibility, the researchers from the University College London compared brains of easy and difficult-to-distract individuals.

They found that people who demonstrate lack of focused attention while completing a task have 'too much of brain' than those who are not easily distracted, the Daily Tech reports.

Separately, some studies in past have shown that people who are easily distracted by irrelevant stimuli are more likely to be creative geniuses.
