Amniotic fluid-derived stem cells aid therapeutically

In a remarkable medical breakthrough, researchers at the University of South Florida have unveiled the unique ability of stem cells found in human amniotic fluid to be isolated and transplanted for therapeutic purposes.

According to the study, amniotic fluid, the insipid liquid with antiseptic properties found in the amniotic sac of a pregnant woman, contains considerable quantities of stem cells.

Hitherto expectant mothers have been going through hours of grueling labor just to know that a vaginal delivery is probably impossible and ending up with an emergency C-section.

Researchers from the Liverpool University and Liverpool Women's Hospital have established that the likelihood of C-section is higher among women who have higher levels of lactic acid in the amniotic fluid.

Conversely, women who have considerably low levels of lactic acid more likely to have a spontaneous vaginal birth, researchers found.

Dental health vital for pregnant women, say experts

Researchers from Case School of Dental Medicine (CSDM), Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), U.S., established that even healthy pregnant women could be at high risk of pregnancy-related problems if they neglect their oral health.

According to experts, dental hygiene is an important part of overall health, and it is even more important for pregnant women to avoid pregnancy-related health risks.
