Here's a new reason to eat a handful of walnuts everyday! The delicious nut that adds extra flavour, crunch and nutrition to your meals is now being considered as a natural remedy to stave off breast cancer.

A new animal study found the risk of breast cancer significantly curbed in mice when walnuts were included as part of their regular diet.

Indian spices may help cure cancer

For the person with cancer or their family who are desperately seeking answers and have lost hope in mainline medicine, an alternative cure for the lethal disease may be on the Indian kitchen shelf.

According to Indian origin doctors based in US, kitchen spices such as turmeric, garlic, ginger, saffron, and capsicum known for their culinary versatility could be a powerful weapon to fight certain pathogens that can cause cancer.

Dr Shrikant Anant of the University of Kansas Medical Centre, US stated, “Over the last 10 years, almost every academic institution and industrial group in the United States has started researching on the cancer-fighting properties of natural substances. Primarily, Indian-American doctors are involved in this, followed by Chinese and Koreans."

Rhubarb may have anti-cancer properties, finds study

In what could herald some hope for the cancer afflicted, researchers have found that eating the garden rhubarb, rich in bioactive components could stem the growth of cancer cells.

This defense is further enhanced when the rhubarb is eaten after baking it in an oven for 20 minutes.

Dr Gordon McDougall, from Scottish Crop Research Institute’s Plant Products and Food Quality program said, “Our research has shown that British rhubarb is a potential source of pharmacological agents that may be used to develop anti-cancer drugs.

“Current treatments are not effective in all cancers and resistance is a common problem. Cancer affects one in three individuals in the UK so it’s very important to discover novel, less toxic, treatments.”
